In small countries such as Albania, finding food to give to people in need takes a lot of energy. The laws about food donation don’t include an interesting tax system. It is then necessary to find ways to raise money in order to buy food for people who need it most.
In this context - and after participating to a skill-sharing session on fundraising organized by the European Food Banks Federation in 2018 - the Food Bank Albania decided to plan a fundraising action.
In October 2018 the Food Bank, together with its partner Albanian Red Cross, organized a series of events in 25 hotels and restaurants of Tirana. The donation of money was encouraged in a playful way: instead of putting a donation box at the desk of the hotel or restaurant, the Food Bank organized a MINIGOLF game. Clients were invited to donate money in exchange of playing and competing with friends or family.
This project allowed the Food Bank Albania to raise some money but mostly to meet a lot of new people and get them aware of the work of the organization. The project was also a good opportunity to improve the relationship with the Red Cross, which is a major entity in the fight against poverty in Albania.
