Christmas message from FEBA president

 14-12-2017

My dear friends and food bankers,

The Christmas season is approaching. It is traditional to review the past year and to consider future projects. It is also the right time for forgiveness and good New Year’s resolutions.

While quite traditional, this message is in my eyes important. It underlines values so dear to all of us food bankers: sharing with joy.

Our federation, with the support of the various federated national organizations has achieved a great deal of objectives this year.

First, I must single out the perfect organization of our annual convention in Rotterdam thanks to the outstanding contribution of the Dutch Federation and its smiling and efficient volunteers. New orientations and/or actions have been decided by the board of Directors and the General Assembly. I would like to mention the creation of the fundraising function, the development of peer to peer visits between food banks, the organization of enriching training sessions fostering new friendships and synergies.

In Rotterdam, all our member presidents were invited to participate in a ‘Presidents Round Table’ with the mission to give direction to our board and prioritize our actions. Thanks to their input, we have been able to produce a strategic plan for the next five years, plan which has been presented and discussed at the second ‘President’s Round Table’ held in Paris in October.

These meetings gave a great opportunity to the leaders of food banks to meet and to appreciate better the very different food banking conditions prevailing in the various countries from the polar circle to the Mediterranean Sea and from Ukraine to Portugal. It is a concrete way to contribute to the development of Europe even if the European Union borders are about to change.

The important work of FEBA’s volunteers is bearing fruits. Our participation to various European Union platforms and the recent publication of the Guidelines for Food Donation by the European Commission bears our imprint. The project countries are working very hard to develop our unique model in their regions, and helped with our development officers.

On the communication side, important efforts have been consented and translate into our increased presence on social media and the radical update of our website which I invite you to consult on http://www.eurofoodbank.org.

During 2018, your federation will move its main office to Brussels. I take this opportunity to thank France. This nation has hosted FEBA since its birth and provided most of the FEBA volunteers. It has also encouraged us to localize to Brussels. In so doing it placed the interest of the future of FEBA above any self-centered interest. On the other end most French volunteers have confirmed their keenness to continue working with FEBA as they have integrated the fact that the cause is more important than the location.

This short tour horizon whilst incomplete must now end. Wholeheartedly, I wish you and your families a merry and joyful season and a prosperous new year. May 2018 be a year of humanity and generosity for you and all the persons who rely on your work for a brighter day, a brighter future.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, Bon Noël et bonne année, Tanti auguri di Buon Natale e Buon Anno, Frohe Weihnachten und guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr, veselé Vánoce a šastný nový rok, glædelig jul og et godt nytår,häid jõule ja head uut aastat,  Boldog karácsonyt és boldog új évet, Kellemes karácsonyi ünnepeket és boldog új évet, Prettige Kerstdagen en Gelukkig Nieuwjaar, God Jul og Godt Nyttår, Feliz Natal e feliz ano novo,Veselé Vianoce a Š?astný Nový Rok, Feliz Navidad y feliz año nuevo
